Lark has 3 types of attendance methods: GPS attendance, Wi-Fi attendance, and machine attendance. This article will show you how to set up Wi-Fi attendance (based on MAC address).
I. Intro
If the administrator enables the Wi-Fi attendance function (based on MAC address), attendance group members can clock in or clock out when their mobile phones are connected to the company Wi-Fi (which must match the MAC address of Wi-Fi router).
Note: To confirm whether attendance group members are connected to the company's Wi-Fi, make sure the MAC address of the Wi-Fi router can match the MAC address being connected to, rather than just looking at the Wi-Fi name. Please enter a complete MAC address following the instructions below.
II. Steps
- 1.Attendance group settings
Go to the Attendance Group Settings page in the Attendance Admin, click on Add attendance group or Edit an existing attendance group. - 2.Enable Wi-Fi attendance
Go to the Attendance Method column and check the Clock in/out by Wi-Fi for the Attendance Method option.
Note:
If the MAC address is incomplete, the attendance group members may also clock in/out offsite even if they are in the specified range. Advice:
- 1.Contact the IT department for a complete MAC address
- 2.Enable both GPS attendance and Wi-Fi attendance in the first 2 weeks. The system can recognize the mobile devices that clock in/out by GPS and automatically record the MAC addresses that aren't recorded.
There are 3 methods to input MAC information: manually create, batch import, and find Wi-Fi with the mobile.
Method 1: Manually create
Click on Add MAC address, enter the Wi-Fi name and MAC address in the pop-up box.
Note: Besides contacting IT, how can I get the Wi-Fi name and MAC address?
Connect to the company's Wi-Fi on a mobile, open the Attendance app, and tap Settings to view My Device. The ssid is the Wi-Fi name and the bssid is the MAC address.
Method 2: Batch import
You can get a complete list of Wi-Fi names and MAC addresses from your company's IT department and then use the Import Multiple function.
Method 3: Find Wi-Fi with your phone
- 1.Use Lark mobile app, open the Attendance app from the Workplace, and tap on Settings to enter Wi-Fi settings.
- 2.Select the attendance group that needs to add, and then tap on Add Wi-Fi.
- 3.Select the Wi-Fi you want to add, and tap Confirm.
Note:
- •Your company's Wi-Fi devices usually come from the same manufacturer. It's better to check the Wi-Fi with the same device information to avoid any errors.
- •It's better to use an Android mobile as it allows you to add all the Wi-Fi information you can currently connect to. IOS mobile can only add one set of Wi-Fi information you are currently connected to.
- •If the attendance group you are connected to didn't enable the Wi-Fi attendance, you can directly enable the Wi-Fi attendance function after adding your company's Wi-Fi through mobile.
- •If you want to create a new attendance group, ensure that you've manually created or batch imported Wi-Fi information before using your mobile to add more Wi-Fi information.
III. FAQs
- 1.Why does the record show offsite clock-in or clock-out when employees use the company Wi-Fi?
Reason: One Wi-Fi may have multiple MAC addresses. The Wi-Fi used by employees wasn't recorded in the Attendance Admin.
Solutions:
1.1 Employees give Wi-Fi information to the administrator:
- •Employees can open the Attendance app and tap Settings to view My Device. They can give the ssid and bssid to the administrator (the ssid is the Wi-Fi name and the bssid is the MAC address).
1.2 The administrator can input the Wi-Fi information through the following 2 ways:
- ◦Manually input in the Attendance Admin (see above Method 1: Manually create for details).
- ◦If the administrator and employees are in the same working area (i.e., share the same Wi-Fi network), the administrator can easily add the information by mobile (see above Method 3: Find Wi-Fi with your mobile for details).
- 2.What is a MAC address?
A MAC address is the unique physical address of a Wi-Fi device. One single Wi-Fi device only corresponds to one MAC address. Different Wi-Fi devices may have the same name (the name can be customized by the user) but different MAC addresses.
- 3.Why is the Wi-Fi attendance function not available on some Android mobile phones?
Due to operating system issues, some Android mobile phones need to enable the location service to automatically use Wi-Fi attendance.
