Dropbox Connector runs on both Lark mobile and Lark desktop. All features are supported on both devices.
You can install the Dropbox Connector app from the Lark App Directory. If you see an alert that Dropbox Connector hasn't been enabled or installed in your organization, contact your admin to enable it for your tenant.
Note: To use Dropbox Connector, you must have a Dropbox account to connect to.
- •Connect to your Dropbox account
To get started, authorize Dropbox Connector to access your Dropbox account.
Open the chat with Dropbox Connector bot in Lark and send login. Click Login to open the account authorization page in the sidebar.
Follow the prompts on screen to log in to your Dropbox account and grant the associated access to Dropbox Connector. Once you're successfully connected, the Dropbox Connector will send a message card to the chat.
You can directly access your Dropbox files from the sidebar. Send dropbox and the bot will reply with a message card listing useful commands and links.
Click Enter Dropbox to open Dropbox in the sidebar.
- •View, search, and manage files
In the Dropbox Connector sidebar, the Files tab displays your own files in full folder structure. Click a file to open it in your browser.
To search for a file, enter the keywords in the search bar at the top of the Files tab.
Alternatively, type search <keywords> in the chat to view a list of all the associated files. Click the title to open the file in your browser.
In the Files tab, click the ... icon next to the file title to view a file's members information. The Members section displays the file's current members.
To add more members, click the + icon, enter the members' email addresses and click Share. An invitation email will be sent to the added members.
Note: When entering the members' email addresses, separate the addresses by pressing the Enter key. If you are adding just one member, make sure to press the Enter key after entering the email address.
At the top right corner of the Members section, a number is displayed to suggest the number of current members. Click the number to manage the existing members. In the opened Members list, you can click to Remove any member.
With the Dropbox Connector, you can share your file to Lark chats, including the file title and link.
Enter the Dropbox sidebar, navigate to the file that you want to share, click the ... icon and select Send to chats. Select the chats as appropriate and click Send.
By default, the contact or group members with a Dropbox account will automatically be given the viewer permission to the shared file.
To share your Dropbox file via link, enter the Dropbox sidebar, navigate to the file that you want to share, click the ... icon, and select Copy link. Anyone with the link will be able to open your file, unless your Dropbox administrator restricts external sharing.
An alternative way to share your Dropbox files to a chat is to launch Dropbox Connector directly from the + menu in the message field. Click the + icon and select Dropbox Connector to open the Dropbox sidebar. Select the file you want to share and click Send. By default, group members with a Dropbox account will be given the viewer permission to the file shared.
- •Get notified of new files shared with you
Dropbox Connector will let you know when someone shares a Dropbox file with you.
To get notified of new file sharing, enter the Dropbox sidebar, and enable the Get notified of new files shared with you option in the Account tab.
You will receive a message card in Lark within 30 minutes after a file is shared with you. Click the file shared to view it in browser.
To view this help article anytime from your chat with Dropbox, send send_welcome_card and click How does it work? on the welcome card. Click Get help to call up your Lark Assistant for further help.
Alternatively, click Enter Dropbox to open the Dropbox sidebar, navigate to the Account tab, and click Get Help to call up your Lark Assistant.
To disconnect your Dropbox account with Lark, type logout in the chat.
Alternatively, open the Dropbox sidebar in the chat, navigate to the Account tab and click Disconnect.
Do I need to add the bot to a group chat to share Dropbox files?
No. Always use the private chat with Dropbox Connector bot for any interaction. Alternatively, you can also use the + menu in chats' message field to launch the Dropbox sidebar for file sharing.
Why did I fail to share files to chats in some cases?
Why is there no notification after someone shares a Dropbox file with me?
If the sharing is completed outside of Lark (e.g. within Dropbox app), Dropbox Connector will send you a Lark notification within 30 minutes, so there may be some lag time.
