Search permissions refer to employees' search range when searching for other employees on the Lark app. In Lark, many medium and large organizations need to configure member permissions to search for others for the purpose of security control.
For example, a large company with many subsidiaries may prefer that the employees of a subsidiary can only search for colleagues within their subsidiaries when using Feishu.
Go to the Lark admin console and click Security > User Permissions > Search Permissions.
Permission settings can be divided into Main Rule and Supplementary Rule:
- 1.Set Main Rule as No restrictions
When this option is selected, internal members can find any employee within the organization. It is selected by default on the admin console.
- 2.Set Main Rule as Consistent with visible scope of the organizational structure
When this option is selected, members can find internal employees visible to them.

- 3.Add users in the supplementary rule
- •Members in List of users who can't search anyone can't find anyone within the organization.
- •Members in List of users who can't be searched can't be found by anyone within the organization.
When I select no restrictions for the main rule and also add users in the supplementary rule, which rule will prevail?
The priority of a supplementary rule is higher than a main rule. For example, when you select no restrictions for the main rule and add Member A in List of users who can't search anyone, then Member A can't search and find anyone but other members can search and find anyone.
When I set Member A can't search and find Member B, will Member A necessarily not see Member B's information?
Not necessarily. Search permissions are just control measures for member searches by users. Other than name searches, users may still see this member in the group, Docs, meetings, or other scenarios.
Can I batch add all members of a department?
No, batch add isn't currently supported. When you add users in the supplementary rule, you can only add them one by one with the maximum of 10,000 users. You can't add departments, user groups, etc.
Why can't I search messages when I'm offline?
The offline search capability will be disabled once the search permissions are configured. Which means when the network connection is weak or when you're offline, you can't search and find data such as members, groups, bots, messages in your local cache.
Note: If you set Main Rule as No restrictions and didn't set any supplementary rule, offline searches won't be affected because it is regarded as no search permissions configured.
